NEW SUNDOG COCKPIT

When I designed the cockpit for Sundog (sometime in 2003 or 2004) I drew it at 800x600 because that was the predicted resolution of the final game - a bit outdated at the time but good for nearly all machines. Now that more years have slipped by, I have been toying with the idea of drawing a second version of the cockpit, cradling the original cockpit in a "frame" to fill out a 1024x768 resolution. So this weekend, I drew the first beta version of this cockpit - I expect to keep tweaking it and modifying it but for the most part I'm happy with how it is looking.

The benefit of doing it this way is that we still keep the universal 800x600 resolution if the player chooses to - the original cockpit will be used if the player selects the smaller resolution. The 800x600 cockpit is no different than the center of the larger cockpit, so all the graphics and code should be easily adapted for the new cockpit. No additional functionality is created with the larger cockpit - it just looks more immersive as the walls sweep up towards you. The player will have a wider field of view out the cockpit windows, but that's the only advantage with the larger cockpit.

Again, this will probably be modified over time, but since I am going to be busy for a bit and won't be able to update it soon, I wanted to show off what I have. Enjoy and feel free to shoot me feedback and comments.

And for your viewing pleasure, the new cockpit with all the lights and indicators lit up.
